For young people, counseling offers a safe and confidential environment to talk to a trusted adult who won't judge them, at a time they are going through the difficult period of developmental predicament that some teenagers are not able to resolve on their own or with the help of supportive family and friends. Just like adults, young people can experience a range of emotional difficulties in their lives which may lead to destructive thoughts, feelings and behaviors.

Challenging relationships, bullying, peer pressure, anxiety, panic attacks, depression or there may be difficulties at home adjusting to new family dynamics due to divorce, separation or living with new step-families even experiencing abusive behaviour such as: physical, emotional or sexual abuse.

Any of these issues can leave a young person feeling helpless, hopeless and very alone, often resulting in low self-esteem and loss of confidence. These thoughts and feelings may manifest itself into difficult behaviour, lack of trust in relationships, low attendance at school or college, self harm or suicidal thoughts and feelings.

Some young people find communication difficult, therefore being able to work creatively can be extremely helpful. It can be a valuable resource in unblocking deep rooted thoughts and feelings, particularly when young people have previously found difficulty in being able to express themselves verbally.

Hi, my name is Louise and I am  the owner of Grey Matters Centre.

I provide counselling from a variety of evidence-based therapeutic models giving the most appropriate therapeutic package for each client. My integrative approach includes; Person Centred Therapy, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, Attachment Therapy and Creative Therapies.

I am very passionate about my job as a Counsellor and using patience, kindness and care create a confidential and safe environment to help you to explore thoughts, feelings, behaviours and issues that may be interfering with your life. Helping you to understand more about yourself and together, as a team we can find new ways and tools which will help you to make the changes you want.

I understand that to seek counselling can seem very daunting and sometimes it takes courage and strength to take the first step. If you have decided to contact me we can arrange to meet for a full and thorough assessment. This session lasts one hour so it gives us time for you to talk about your difficulties. I will explain how I work and how our sessions will be confidential. I will ask you questions and explore what has brought you along to counselling, what is happening for you and some of your history. It will be important for me to know what your aims and goals are so that we know what we are trying to achieve. Hopefully this lets you get to know me a little and help you decide if you would like us to continue to work together. If this is what you decide to do then we can arrange further appointments for you. Usually this is once a week but we can discuss this if this is not suitable. The duration of the sessions are usually goal orientated and I am happy to be guided by your preference.

I have had personal experiences with Anxiety, Generalized Anxiety and Panic Attacks so I have done extensive studies on these areas and I am very passionate about this work.

I work with a variety of Anger Issues, O.C.D, Phobias and Relationship Issues.

I work with individuals on a one-to-one basis and I specialize with clients; Men, Women and Children, who have suffered from; Sexual Abuse, Trauma, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder or Domestic Violence.
