I couldn’t find the help I needed – so I built it.

My story

My name is Louise Fenton and I am the owner and founder of Grey Matters Centre. I am 59 years old and a mum to two grown up children, I also have 3 stepchildren, 5 grandchildren and two dogs.

For most of my life, I have been dedicated to working with people experiencing mental health difficulties. What began as a personal passion soon became a lifelong commitment โ€“ from hobby, to student, to professional therapist.

I am from Scunthorpe and am an experienced, qualified BACP Accredited Therapist as well as an EMDR Therapist. I work with adults who want to make a difference in their lives, build confidence, and heal from emotional pain or relationship difficulties.

Over the years, I have trained extensively and gained experience across many areas of mental health. I specialise in working with sexual abuse, the impact of trauma, and issues such as OCD, Borderline Personality Disorder, Dissociative Disorders and Disordered Eating.

Many clients find me after searching for a therapist in Scunthorpe, EMDR near me, or trauma therapy in North Lincolnshire โ€“ I’m proud to support people at all stages of their healing journey.

There was a time in my life I went through a challenging time and I needed help. I tried everywhere but couldn’t find the support I needed, a very frightening and lonely place to be. I ended up in the library trying to find the answers in books.

The books helped but I needed more. This led me on to education and that is where I am today, well over a decade later, with a passion and dedication for working with trauma.

When I needed help and a place to turn I found it very frightening and lonely. I can still remember what that felt like. This led me to opening Grey Matters Centreโ€”a place for people to go when they need help and support.

Building Grey Matters Centre

When I first qualified I saw clients from home which worked well to begin with. But as I got busy I found it quite difficult with dogs and kids in the house, so I took a leap of faith, quit my job and opened Grey Matters Centre.

It began with just two therapy rooms.

Business started booming and other wonderful therapists came to join me. Soon the two therapy rooms weren’t enough, so I expanded into the upstairs flat and transformed the building into one centre.

Grey Matters Centre now has five therapy rooms.

It has been a challenging journey. The building needed extensive renovation and over the last five years I’ve renovated it room by room. Today, it has become the warm, welcoming and professional space I always imagined.

This is only the beginning of the next chapter. We continue investing in the best training, research and therapeutic approaches to ensure Grey Matters Centre remains a trusted, compassionate place for healing and growth.

If anyone would like to enquire about booking a session with me, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

I look forward to meeting you.
