    How I Work

    About Me

I hold a FdA in Counselling (University of Hull) and a BSc in Health and Social Care (University of Lincoln), alongside specialist training in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP Levels 1 and 2). My experience includes working with foster and adoption families in Hull, where I developed systemic insight into attachment and relational healing. (Below is a full overview of my qualifications to date).

In 2021, I was invited to write and deliver a 10-week Creative Arts course on understanding mental health for Key Stage 1-3 children affected by domestic violence, in collaboration with the Hull DAP team. This project reflects my passion for combining creativity with therapeutic practice to make emotional wellbeing accessible and empowering.

I also hold a City and Guilds Level 3 qualification in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector, which enriches my ability to understand childrenโ€™s learning stile and support them in building confidence and self-esteem. This is particularly valuable when working with neurodiverse children โ€“ around 90% of my clients are ADHD, ASD, or AuDHD โ€“ helping them explore identity, improve learning outcomes, and thrive in both educational and personal contexts.

My practice is grounded in empathy, creativity, and a commitment to helping children and families flourish.

    How I Work

    My Approach

My work is grounded in trauma-informed psychotherapy, shaped by compassion, trust and collaboration. I aim to help you build understanding, emotional safety and stability while respecting your boundaries at every stage.

For some people, words alone arenโ€™t enough. Alongside talking therapy, I also offer Art Psychotherapy, a creative and non-verbal way to explore feelings and experiences that may be difficult to put into language. This can be especially helpful when experiences are held in the body or feel easier to express visually or symbolically.

Using are is always a choice. You donโ€™t need to consider yourself creative, and you are never expected to explain or interpret anything before you are ready.

    How Therapy Can Help

Many people I support feel emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected from their identity, or unsure where to begin. Therapy can offer a gentle starting point โ€“ a place where you donโ€™t have to explain everything perfectly or know what the next step should be.

Together, we can explore how past experiences may still be influencing. your thoughts, feelings and patterns today โ€“ not to relive them, but to gradually loosen their hold and support change that feel sustainable.

    Working Together

Our first session is a gentle conversation about where you are now and what you need most. From there we shape the work together in a way that feels supportive, personalised and achievable.

    Therapy may help you:

    • Develop greater self-awareness and understanding
    • Reduce emotional distress and psychological pain
    • Reconnect with a sense of safety, identity and stability
    • Build trust in yourself and your experiences

Whether youโ€™re new to therapy or returning after previous experiences, youโ€™re very welcome here.

    How I Work

    My Approach

This step you are taking may have been a difficult one yet I believe that this could also be a hugely rewarding one for you and is, without a doubt, a courageous step to take.

It has always been an honour to work with such courage: an honour to be invited into your life at a time when you maybe want to hide away from your grief, anxiety, depression, trauma, low self-confidence and a lack of self-worth. An honour to be asked to witness, share and support your pain and the impact this may be having on you, your family and your relationships.

Whatever you are experiencing right now, I believe that my work as an integrative therapist using a range of research and theories will, have a positive impact and allow you to feel stronger in the face of challenges. We will work together to recognise behaviours which hold you back, to heal pains from the past, to consider healthier mind-sets and to strengthen your self-confidence.

    How I Support You

No matter what it is you are experiencing, I provide an environment which is safe, warm and kind for everyone and as a committed therapist I will ensure our work takes place with your specific needs in mind. A space which is free from judgement, truly empathic, working to build mutual understanding and trust because through trust and understanding, I believe we can grow.

My goal is to support you in doing just that, to grow, to evolve, and to let go. To accept and to develop the skills you need to support yourself long term because letโ€™s face it, few of us wish to be in therapy forever.

However, sometimes accessing therapy โ€œISโ€ the answer and is the reason my deep passion continues. A passion, as a human being to support another. To play a significant role in making a difference in minimising your symptoms and maximising your daily function.

    Working Together

To begin your journey with me and to start living the life you envision then please do not hesitate to reach out. An initial appointment will be made for an in depth 50 minute assessment. This will ensure I have a good understanding of your presenting issues and will ensure that you are comfortable to start your journey with me. Just like building relationships outside of therapy, I believe that having an open, honest and trusting therapeutic client/counsellor is also important which will inform the work that we do. Furthermore, this is an opportunity for you to discuss any goals you have and to explore any concerns you may have about the therapeutic process.

I look forward to working with you when you feel that you are ready.

    My Experience

My experience as a Counsellor and Mental Health Specialist over a number of years has afforded me the opportunity to work with all aspects of mental health and the devastating impact this can have on individuals lives. I have experience working in demanding, emotionally charged environments with trauma, abuse, victims of crime and I am suicide ASSIST trained.

Specialising in Couples, Families and Young People

Most couples donโ€™t arrive in therapy because everything is broken. They come because communication has become strained, trust feels uncertain, or life changes have placed pressure on the relationship.

You might be finding the same arguments keep repeating. That conversation quickly turns into conflict or silence. Parenting, stress, past experiences or unmet needs are sitting between you. Or that youโ€™re unsure whether the relationship can change โ€“ or whether separation might be the next step.

Iโ€™m Chandel, a registered BACP counsellor and trainee CORST therapist, specialising in working with couples and families navigating the realities of modern relationships, including communication difficulties, separation, trust breaches, parenting conflict, and the emotional impact of change and loss.

    How I Work

    My Approach

My approach is integrative and relational, helping clients explore both the practical patterns shaping their relationships and the emotional experiences influencing how the respond to one another.

I offer a reflective, compassionate and professional space to make sense of whatโ€™s happening, develop healthier ways of communicating, and rebuild trust where possible. My work is grounded in ethical, inclusive and culturally sensitive practice, with attention to to how to identify, culture, trauma, sexuality, disability, and neurodivergence shape our relational lives.

Chandel also works with young people, offering a calm and supportive space to explore whatever may be feeling difficult or confusing. She works thoughtfully with teenagers and young adults who may be struggling with emotions, relationships, identity, or feeling under pressure, helping them make sense of their experiences at their own pace.

    Family and wider relational work

Alongside couples therapy, I am experienced in supporting families through:

    • Co-parenting challenges and parenting conflict
    • Blended and complex family systems
    • Extended family and in-law dynamics
    • Intergenerational patterns that influence present relationships
    • Family court proceedings and parental alienation

My role is to walk alongside you โ€“ helping you understand patterns, emotions and reactions, and supporting practical changes that can be carried into everyday life beyond the therapy room.

Over time, this process can help you feel more grounded, more in control, and more connected โ€“ both to yourself and to one another.

    Working Together

In couples therapy, my role is not to take sides or decide who is right or wrong. My focus is on creating a calm, balanced space where both voices are heard and difficult conversations can take place more safely.

    Together we may work to:

    • Understand repeating patterns of conflict, distance or shutdown
    • Improve communication and emotional understanding
    • explore the impact of trust breaches and affairs
    • Reduce blame and increase clarity and compassion
    • Support reconnection, clearer boundaries, or separation with care

You do not need to know the outcome before starting. Therapy can help you slow things down, think more clearly, and decide together what feels right.

Supporting Children, Young People & Families

When your child is struggling, it can feel frightening, exhausting, and deeply unsettling โ€“ especially when youโ€™re not sure whatโ€™s going on or how best to help. Many parents reach out feeling worried, overwhelmed, or quietly questioning whether theyโ€™ve missed something important.

Iโ€™m Rebecca, a child and young adult therapist with over 10 years experience supporting children, teenagers and young adults who are navigating trauma, emotional distress, and overwhelming life experiences. As both a therapist and a mum, I understand how heavy it can feel to worry about your child and wonder whether youโ€™re doing the right thing.

You donโ€™t need to have all the answers to seek support noticing that something doesnโ€™t feel quite right is enough.

    How I Work

    My Approach

My work is trauma-informed, compassionate, and grounded in trust. I take time to understand your childโ€™s world โ€“ their family life, school environment, friendships, and experiences โ€“ so that support feels relevant and meaningful.

I draw on a range of evidence-based and creative approaches, including:

    • Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)
    • Therapeutic play and creative work
    • Counselling
    • Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP)
    • Stabilisation and grounding techniques
    • Psychoeducation

How I Support Children & Young People

Children and young people donโ€™t always have the words to explain what theyโ€™re feeling. Emotional distress can show up in many ways โ€“ anxiety, anger, withdrawal, changes in behaviour, sleep difficulties, school struggles, or feeling shut down.

I offer a calm, compassionate and trauma-informed space where young people can begin to make sense of what theyโ€™re experiencing, feeling understood, and gradually develop safer, more confident ways to cope.

My work is always paced gently and shaped around the individual child or young person. Building trust and emotional safety is my starting point โ€“ healing begins when a young person feels truly seen and heard.

    Working Together

Our work usually begins with an initial assessment, giving your child space to be heard and allowing me to understand how best to support them. From there, we agree together what ongoing support might look like.

When youโ€™re ready, you can view my availability and book an initial assessment online. There is no obligation โ€“ this is simply the first step in understanding how I can support your child and your family.

    Understanding What Youโ€™re Going Through

Watching your child struggle can be incredibly painful. Many parents tell me they feel helpless, guilty or unsure what to do next โ€“ especially after long waiting lists or unclear pathways to support.

    You are not alone.

Alongside supporting your child, I also work with parents and carers, offering guidance sessions to help you understand what may be happening for your child and how best to support them at home. While therapy remains focused on your childโ€™s wellbeing and emotional safety, parents are supported too.

I believe therapy works best when families feel informed, reassured and involved in a way that feels right for everyone.
