    How I Work

    My Approach

An area I am passionate about working with is anxiety, panic attacks, and generalised anxiety disorder (GAD) having suffered myself. I truly understand how feeling anxious can take over your life and inner peace, and how debilitating panic attack themselves can be. Anxiety can take many forms, disrupt your daily routines, relationships and sleep and it may feel that no one truly understands the impact on you and that you should just โ€˜stop worryingโ€™. Together, we can get to know your triggers in a safe space, whether that be due to a situation, bodily sensations, intrusive thoughts or beliefs. Once we understand what anxiety is and how anxiety is actually your bodies way of protecting you, we can actually work to befriend your anxiety and retrain your brain to change how it responds to these perceived threats.

You can heal from anxiety and with the right support, learn the coping skills to enable you to go on and live a peaceful and fulfilling life. Iโ€™d love to help you with this, how I once was!

    How I Support You

Another area of specialised interest is in working with adults that are navigating periods of change in their lives. This could be relationship changes or general life changes which might have brought up feelings of anxiety or uncertainty or a lack of confidence. You may be finding it hard to find your way in life, or navigating a hard divorce, we can work together to find a way forward and get your spark back! My approach with each individual is different, but with every client I can help to challenge those automatic responses/reactions you might have caught yourself having, helping us to break that negative and unhelpful cycle of thinking.

I also have experience and a keen interest in working with grief and loss, anxiety, depression, self-esteem, behavioural issues, self-harm, family breakdown and anger issues.

    Working Together

Having had therapy myself I can empathise with how nerve wracking the thought of counselling can be. But rest assured I value myself to be patient, caring, friendly and a trustworthy sounding board for you to get to know. I help clients explore their thoughts, feelings and behaviours so they can develop a better understanding of themselves and others. I will not give my opinion or advice. I hope to help clients find their own solutions โ€“ whether thatโ€™s making effective changes in their life or finding better ways of dealing with emotional issues and providing coping strategies where appropriate. Sessions are completely led by you and are at your own pace, once we have explored the issues at hand we can then look at ways of alleviating that anxiety, pain or stress which is holding you back from being the best version of you. What might life look like free from the issues you are having? We can work together to achieve that goal.

Thank you for considering me as your counsellor.

I have had both of my Covid vaccinations and my booster.

    How I Work

    My Approach

I am an integrative Counsellor and Psychotherapist, working primarily from a Humanistic perspective. This means I work with the whole of you, not just symptoms or diagnoses, and I place great importance on the therapeutic relationship we build together.

With over ten yearsโ€™ experience supporting adults who have experienced trauma, I work in a way that is grounded in trust, compassion, transparency and respect. While these values are central to my work, how they show up will be shaped around you โ€“ your story, your needs, your preferences and what feels most supportive.

I believe recovery is about more than symptom reduction. You deserve a life that feels meaningful, grounded and authentic, with a growing sense of self-worth and inner stability.

    How Therapy Can Help

Therapy can offer space to explore experiences from both the past and present, including trauma related to childhood, relationships or sexual violence. Together we may work towards greater emotional regulation, improved self-esteem, strengthened boundaries, and a deeper understanding of how your experiences have shaped you.

Our work is always flexible and kept under review. We can adapt how we work together as your needs evolve, ensuring the process remains personalised, responsive and supportive of your goals.

    Working Together

There is no fixed pathway or expectation. Some people come to therapy wanting space to be heard and understood, while others are ready to create change โ€“ and many experience a combination of both over time

I will bring professional knowledge and therapeutic skill, but you will remain central to the process. You are encouraged to share what feels helpful, when it doesnโ€™t, and what you would like more or less of. Therapy is a collaborative process, shaped around you.

Support for adults feeling emotionally exhausted, overwhelmed or disconnected

If youโ€™ve reached a point where life feels heavy, overwhelming, or difficult to connect with in the way it once did, youโ€™re not alone. Many people come to therapy not because something dramatic has happened, but because they no longer feel like themselves, and theyโ€™re  unsure where to begin.

Sometimes people come to therapy during obvious periods of change or crisis. Other times, itโ€™s imply the feeling that life has become emotionally heavy, overwhelming, or difficult to navigate alone.

From the outside, you may appear to be coping well whilst internally feeling exhausted, disconnected, flat or emotionally stuck.

Iโ€™m Sharon, an integrative counsellor supporting adults who want space to pause, reflect and gently make sense of what theyโ€™re carrying. You donโ€™t need to have clear goals or the right words before you start. Noticing that something isnโ€™t sitting right is enough.

    How I Work

    My Approach

My work is integrative and collaborative, shaped around you rather than a fixed way of working. I offer a calm, empathic and non-judgemental space where you can explore your experiences safely and honestly.

I work at a pace that feels. manageable, supporting reflection, understanding and gradual change rather than pressure or quick solutions.

    A Little About Me

Like many people, my own life has included challenges โ€“ loss, relationship breakdowns, anxiety, low mood and sleep difficulties, alongside the ongoing balancing act of work, home, and family life. These experiences shape how I work: with realism, compassion, and an understanding that life can be messy as well as meaningful.

One of my greatest personal achievements has been raising my two daughters โ€“ supporting them to find their own paths, build resilience, and learn the importance of balance, rest, and self-care.

I believe you donโ€™t need to have all the answers โ€“ only a willingness to explore them.

A particular area I feel deeply passionate about is supporting parents of children experiencing school-related distress and school avoidance.

As a parent myself, I understand how isolating, exhausting and misunderstood this experience can become. Many parents find themselves caught between worry for their child, pressure from the systems around them, and the emotional toll of trying to hold everything together whilst feeling judged or unsupported.

Often, the focus becomes simply getting a child back into school, while very little attention is given to the fear, overwhelm, guilt and helplessness families may be carrying underneath it all.

I offer a compassionate, non-judgemental space for parents to talk honestly about what this experience is like, emotionally and practically, and to feel supported rather than blamed.

    Working Together

My approach is integrative and collaborative, blending different therapeutic perspectives so that counselling meets you where you are. I work at a pace that feels manageable, supporting reflection, understanding and gradual change rather than quick fixes.

Clients often tell me that I help them see the bigger picture โ€“ gently noticing patterns, hearing what sits beneath the words, and reflecting back what may be difficult to recognise alone. As clarity grows, decisions tend to feel more grounded and life more intentional.

Clients often describe feeling emotionally clearer, more grounded, and better able to understand the patters that have been keeping them stuck.

How Therapy With Me Can Help

Therapy offers a calm, supportive space where you can understand feelings of emptiness, low mood, emotional exhaustion or disconnection. Sometimes people come to therapy not because theyโ€™ve stopped functioning, but because theyโ€™re tired of surviving life rather than feeling connected to it.

Together, therapy can help you to:

    • Make sense of who you are and what you need now
    • Rebuild confidence and self-belief
    • Navigate life changes, transitions, or uncertainty
    • Find balance between competing demands
    • Reconnect with your values, direction and sense of self

Often itโ€™s the small, thoughtful steps that create the most meaningful and lasting change.

    How I Work

    About Me

I hold a FdA in Counselling (University of Hull) and a BSc in Health and Social Care (University of Lincoln), alongside specialist training in Dyadic Developmental Psychotherapy (DDP Levels 1 and 2). My experience includes working with foster and adoption families in Hull, where I developed systemic insight into attachment and relational healing. (Below is a full overview of my qualifications to date).

In 2021, I was invited to write and deliver a 10-week Creative Arts course on understanding mental health for Key Stage 1-3 children affected by domestic violence, in collaboration with the Hull DAP team. This project reflects my passion for combining creativity with therapeutic practice to make emotional wellbeing accessible and empowering.

I also hold a City and Guilds Level 3 qualification in Preparing to Teach in the Lifelong Learning Sector, which enriches my ability to understand childrenโ€™s learning stile and support them in building confidence and self-esteem. This is particularly valuable when working with neurodiverse children โ€“ around 90% of my clients are ADHD, ASD, or AuDHD โ€“ helping them explore identity, improve learning outcomes, and thrive in both educational and personal contexts.

My practice is grounded in empathy, creativity, and a commitment to helping children and families flourish.

    Working Together

We will talk about whatโ€™s going well and whatโ€™s hard.

I teach practical skills for calming down, sleeping better, focusing, and handling worries.

I use fun, age-friendly resources to make learning easier and more engaging

We set goals to help you or your child feel safer, stronger, and more confident.

    What can improve?

Less worry and avoidance, leading to better attendance and participation

Better sleep, more energy and a brighter mood.

    Stronger family communication and relationships.

    How I Work

    My Approach

My work is grounded in trauma-informed psychotherapy, shaped by compassion, trust and collaboration. I aim to help you build understanding, emotional safety and stability while respecting your boundaries at every stage.

For some people, words alone arenโ€™t enough. Alongside talking therapy, I also offer Art Psychotherapy, a creative and non-verbal way to explore feelings and experiences that may be difficult to put into language. This can be especially helpful when experiences are held in the body or feel easier to express visually or symbolically.

Using are is always a choice. You donโ€™t need to consider yourself creative, and you are never expected to explain or interpret anything before you are ready.

    How Therapy Can Help

Many people I support feel emotionally overwhelmed, disconnected from their identity, or unsure where to begin. Therapy can offer a gentle starting point โ€“ a place where you donโ€™t have to explain everything perfectly or know what the next step should be.

Together, we can explore how past experiences may still be influencing. your thoughts, feelings and patterns today โ€“ not to relive them, but to gradually loosen their hold and support change that feel sustainable.

    Working Together

Our first session is a gentle conversation about where you are now and what you need most. From there we shape the work together in a way that feels supportive, personalised and achievable.

    Therapy may help you:

    • Develop greater self-awareness and understanding
    • Reduce emotional distress and psychological pain
    • Reconnect with a sense of safety, identity and stability
    • Build trust in yourself and your experiences

Whether youโ€™re new to therapy or returning after previous experiences, youโ€™re very welcome here.

you want to understand why things feel this way, not just cope with them

things feel stuck between you and someone important

the same issues keep coming up in your relationship

    communication feels difficult or strained

youโ€™re navigating change within your family or relationship

How I Support Children & Young People

My approach is calm, collaborative and thoughtful.

We work at a pace that feels manageable, creating space to understand whatโ€™s happening beneath the surface โ€“ not just whatโ€™s visible day to day.

Thereโ€™s no pressure to have everything figured out. We begin with where you are.

    How I Work

    My Approach

I work with all parts of you โ€“ including the parts you may find confusing, overwhelming or difficult to understand. These parts developed to protect you, often during painful or unsafe moments. By gently getting to know them, understand their intentions, and supporting the healing beneath them, it becomes possible to move from automatic reactions to conscious, empowered choices.

I work at a pace that feels safe, and right for you. You will not be pushed, rushed or expected to revisit anything before you feel ready. You wonโ€™t be alone in this process โ€“ I will support you throughout.

This work can bring greater internal stability, emotional regulation and a deeper sense of harmony โ€“ both within yourself and in your relationships.

    How Therapy Can Help

I offer a deep level of trauma-focused therapy, that works with the mind, body and nervous system. Using evidence-based, trauma-informed approaches, therapy can help reduce distress, support nervous system regulation, and gently release trauma held for a long time.

Alongside this, talking therapy provides space to explore beliefs, patterns and personal narratives โ€“ bringing clarity, meaning and emotional relief.

I have many years experience supporting adults with complex trauma and long-term emotional difficulties. I work daily with trauma-related patterns and have witnessed truly life-changing transformations in the people I support.

Each year, I help many individuals to move towards healing, recovery and a life that feels more aligned, stable and fulfilling.

    Working Together

The initial assessment lasts 50 minutes. During this session, we will explore your history, what you are experiencing now and what you would like life to look like after therapy. You will have space to ask any questions and ensure the approach feels right for you.

Your therapy will be tailored to your individual needs. Together, we may work towards:

    • Understanding the root cause of your difficulties
    • Recognising triggers and patterns
    • Supporting emotional regulation and nervous system safety
    • Working with internal parts and protective responses
    • Reducing trauma responses and reactivity
    • Strengthening inner resources and coping strategies
    • Supporting lasting, sustainable recovery

You are always welcome to use therapy for stabilisation, safety or life enhancement only, without engaging in trauma processing until you feel fully ready.

    Therapeutic Approaches

I work integratively, drawing on approaches including:

    • Internal Family Systems (IFS)
    • EMDR
    • Flash Technique
    • Rewind Technique
    • Brainspotting

This whole-system, mind-body approach supports deep and lasting healing while remaining gentle and carefully paced.

You are completely welcome to access therapy for stabilisation, safety and life enhancement only, without doing any trauma processing until you feel fully ready.

Specialising in Relationships/Family difficulties and Clinical Counselling Supervisor

My name is Lisa and I am a qualified couples and family therapist. I do also offer individual appointments especially if the reasons are relational.

One of the common themes that I often recognise when working with more than one person in the therapy room is the lack of or misunderstanding of communication between couples/families/friends or even work colleagues. As people we often assume that the person we are communicating with knows and understands how we are thinking and feeling but this is often not the case and can stop us from having conversations and expressing our thoughts and feelings which in turn can result in communication breakdown and sadly lead to relationship difficulties.

I work systemically which means during the counselling session we would explore all areas of your life including, environment as well as other external and internal factors such as your own values and beliefs.

    How I Work

    Domestic Abuse/Narcissistic Abuse/Coercive Control

Living with historical domestic abuse, narcissistic abuse or coercive control, no matter how long ago it was, can erode your confidence, sense of reality and emotional safety. You may have learnt to keep the peace, minimise your needs, second-guess yourself or carry guilt and shame that were never yours to hold. Whether the abuse was emotional, psychological, financial or physical, the impact can stay long after the relationship ends โ€“ leaving you feeling confused, exhausted, isolated or unsure who you are anymore. Therapy offers a safe, steady and non-judgemental space to piece things together, rebuild self-trust, understand the patterns youโ€™ve survived, and begin to heal. You donโ€™t have to go through this alone. Support is available and you deserve to feel safe, respected and in control of your own life again.

    Clinical Supervision

As a Clinical Counselling Supervisor, I provide a reflective, supportive and collaborative space for therapists and trainee counsellors to explore their work safely and confidently.

Supervision with me offers a balance of encouragement, professional challenge and grounding guidance, helping you deepen your clinical thinking, strengthen ethical practice and feel steady in the work you do. Whether you are newly qualified, in training or an experienced practitioner, supervision is a place to develop your skills, process what you hold for clients, and maintain your own wellbeing. My systemic approach allows us to look at both client dynamics and the wider context impacting the therapeutic relationship, ensuring your work remains ethical, effective and inspired.

    Pre-trial Therapy

Saturday appointments are available for clients who are victims or witnesses to a crime. My work is client centred, providing emotional support and to help you with your thoughts and feelings, which can be upsetting and leave you feeling unheard and invisible.

I also offer counselling to clients, over 18 years, who have been on Jury Service. Having been on it myself I am aware of what can and cannot be discussed. I am also mindful that being a juror can be unsettling and leave you with a mixture of emotions, including guilt, anger and sadness.

Supporting Adults, with a Special Focus on Menโ€™s Mental Health

If youโ€™re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, angry, burned out or disconnected, it may be that youโ€™ve been carrying too much for too long. Many men come to therapy after years of managing on their own โ€“ keeping things going on the outside while something quietly feels off underneath.

Iโ€™m Lee, a BACP Senior Accredited Counsellor and Psychotherapist with over 25 years experience supporting adults through some of lifeโ€™s most challenging experiences. I work with both men and women, and I have a particular focus on men who want space to think clearly, regain steadiness and understand whatโ€™s driving the pressure theyโ€™re under.

You donโ€™t need to be in crisis to come to therapy. Often itโ€™s about having a private, non-judgemental space to pause, reflect and make sense of things โ€“ without being told to โ€œjust get on with itโ€ or expected to have the answers.

Before training as a therapist, I worked as a professional musician โ€“ an experience that taught me how deeply emotions runs beneath the surface, and how much courage it takes to express whatโ€™s real.

Iโ€™ve also worked within the NHS and the prison system, where I learned the importance of resilience, honesty and human connection, even in the most challenging circumstances. I bring all of this experience into my therapy work.

Alongside my counselling practice, I have practiced Tai Chi for over 40 years and previously taught in London. This long-standing practice informs the calm, grounded way I work and my focus on mind-body awareness.

    How I Work

    My Approach

The relationship we build together is central to the work. My approach is straightforward, respecful and shaped around you โ€“ your pace, your goals and what feels manageable.

Weโ€™ll explore thoughts, emotions and patterns that may be influencing how you respond under pressure. Many of these patterns develop early in life and continue to affect confidence, relationships and emotional regulation in subtle but powerful ways.

I work without pressure to share more than youโ€™re ready to. The aim is clarity, self-understanding and practical tools that fit your real life โ€“ not a textbook version of it.

    How Therapy Can Help

Men are often expected to cope quietly, stay strong and push through. Over time, this can lead to chronic stress, anger, burnout, relationship strain or a sense that life is being managed rather than lived.

Therapy offers a grounded, confidential space to step back and understand whatโ€™s happening beneath the surface โ€“ without judgement of pressure. Together, weโ€™ll look at patterns that may be keeping things stuck and find practical ways to feel more steady, more in control and better equipped to handle what life is throwing at you.

    Working Together

Therapy with me is collaborative and flexible. Weโ€™ll work in a way that suits you, drawing on a range of approaches to support meaningful and lasting change.

My integrative training allows me to adapt how we work together rather than fitting you into a fixed model. I draw from person-centred therapy, compassion-focused therapy, existential theory, transactional analysis, CBT-informed techniques and mindfulness practices.

Supporting individuals, couples and families through relationship difficulties, baby loss, grief and emotional overwhelm.

Sometimes people reach out when communication has broken down, trust feels damaged, or the relationship feels distant and tense. Others come feeling lonely, exhausted, unsure whether things can improve, or carrying the pain of betrayal, separation or repeated conflict.

Some people come after loss. Some after years of coping. Some simply know something needs attention.

You do not need to arrive in crisis. You do not need to have the right words. You do not need to be certain before you begin.

I offer a warm, thoughtful and experienced space where you can slow things down, make sense of what is happening, and begin to move forward.
